How To Develop Strong Sales Skill And Be A Prominent Leader In Your Business.
Ever wondered why business coaches stress the importance of leadership and sales, especially to entrepreneurs and business owners like yourself?
It's because those are the two most essential skills you must possess that drive results and improves your business’s financial health and the performance of your team.
As a business coach who has been in business for over a decade, I’ve seen significant changes in the business landscape over the years and how companies perform better both from financial and organizational aspects when your leadership and sales skills improve.
Despite all of that, none of the above factors matter if you don't know the proper techniques and don't possess sales and leadership skills.
Below I share in-depth information from one of my weekly emails on what sales and leadership mean and how you can start working on these skills to discover better business results and why sales and leadership skills are important for business.
What Is Sales?
That may or may not be your definition of sales. It most certainly is for the vast majority of people.
What’s the first thing that comes to your mind when you think of sales?
Do you picture a pushy used car salesman with his beige suit, brown shoes, red tie, white shirt, gold rings on his finger, and his gold tooth shining through his mouth and speaks so eloquently trying to persuade you into buying a car that both you and he know is way out of your budget?
That’s at least what the general public thinks.
But you’re not the general public.
You’re a business owner and by statistics, belong to the 7.3%1 of the world population known as entrepreneurs.
Let's play a game, let's change your perspective on sales and give it a new word.
We’ll call sales, Solution.
You and your business are providing a solution to your target market and the problem your customers face.
Here are some ways to improve your sales skills:
1. Understand your target market
Who is your ideal customer?
What are their pain points?
Empathize with them.
Make certain that your product or service helps solve their issues.
2. Prepare a script
Communicate succinctly with the right words and tell stories.
Empathize with your customers and solve their problems sincerely.
Show how your product or service solves the problem.
Use words and jargon that are specific to your target audience and industry to show expertise and authority.
3. Always go above and beyond
After closing a sale follow up
Ask if the product or service has improved and solved their problem
Sales cures everything and above I have prescribed the remedy for it.
Use this knowledge wisely and in the right dosage depending on what the circumstances call for.
Work diligently on improving your sales skills and processes, then watch how your business grows heaps and bounds.
Always remember, you want to be in the reorder business, not the selling business.
Be sincere and honest in your efforts to help solve a customer's problem.
What Is Leadership?
Leaders are individuals who are able to inspire and motivate others to get things done.
Leaders get down to the ground and show their people how it's done. They do not hesitate to roll up their sleeves, take off their Rolexes, step into the mud with their Bobby Valentino shoes or work on the factory floor if they need to.
Leaders always lead from the front and by example.
This is one of the most crucial skills you as an entrepreneur need and must learn.
Some ways how to improve your leadership skills:
1. Be Disciplined
As a leader, you must demonstrate discipline and show your people that you are willing to do whatever it takes within ethical and moral boundaries to get a job done.
2. Model after great leaders
There have been many past great leaders and there are more than ever today. Learn from their mistakes and success as to how to lead and grow an organization and business entity.
3. Understand yourself and your leadership style
The key to being a great leader is knowing yourself, your strengths, and weaknesses, and which leadership style works best for you.
4. Hire a Business Coach
Business coaches have been around the business block for a while now. They understand and know how to develop the leadership skills that you have as an entrepreneur within you.
Being a leader is also one of the loneliest feelings in the world.
You’re often misunderstood, you have to make the tough decisions, it feels like at times you’re carrying the weight of the world on your shoulders and you have to sit alone in the corner because no one gets you and sometimes you even contemplate on shutting the business down for a more serene and peaceful life in the countryside.
I get you. I really do.
Being a leader is not easy. You have to show up always no matter what and how you’re feeling and execute to the best of your ability every day and sometimes even seven days a week putting in 10-12 hours of workday sometimes even more.
You need to understand that you’re not alone in this and that leaders all around the world face this challenge and go through these emotions and circumstances.
However, you do not have to go through this alone, join my weekly emails list where I also get the opportunity to share stories about other leaders, their struggles, successes, and how you can overcome them too.
Be a part of our entrepreneurs and leaders community and exchange best practices, ideas, and wisdom to help you and your business grow.
Remember, leadership and sales skills are absolutely vital for you and your business’s success in this ultra-competitive global market that we compete in today.
Upon sharing the insights and information above, I truly hope that you understand better why sales and leadership are important for business growth
I look forward to sharing my weekly insights with you and how you can work on improving these skills.
